American Medibanc
In 2005 we purchased American Medibanc which was a 50 person Denver based company that provided an outsourced ambulance billing solution for fire stations throughout North America. Our goal was to implement cutting edge technology practices that would allow us to bring in enough major clients that we could sell the business at a profit. Essentially this meant that instead of receiving copies of ambulance trip information and entering it into our system we would seamlessly integrate with the electronic programs that our clients used and bring over all of the data. One of the features that no other ambulance billing companies provided was to provide real time information to the fire stations on billing status.
While we understood the obstacles facing us we needed to partner with a very strong technology company that could help us implement all of the systems that would allow us to achieve our goals. Allen Technology Advising came highly recommended for the “across the board technology needs” that we had.
- Initially they implemented the redundant hardware systems, including servers, routers and workstations, as well as the Citrix terminal server product allowing us to essentially use our desktops as dummy terminals, significantly reducing the overhead costs of desktop software implementation.
- We then moved our entire office, including servers, phone system workstations, to a new location and they assisted us with getting competitive bids on the wiring plant and server room build out. Most importantly, the move went exactly as planned and we had no unexpected downtime.
- We needed to implement a software program specific to Ambulance Billing and we selected a best of breed software program that helped us interface electronically with some of our major clients. However, some interfaces were not available but extremely necessary and we also wanted to provide real time access to our data. Allen Technology Advising assisted us with designing, implementing and documenting the interfaces we needed and provided a custom and well documented solution to allow our clients to not only view real-time billing reports but also print them out as well.
- We did have one day where there was a problem with our database server and we were forced to go to backups, and because of the business continuity foresight of Allen Technology Advising we lost less than 30 minutes of work.
We utilized Allen Technology Advising as well to fill out RFPs for our larger prospects and they spent a considerable about of time assisting us with a proposal for the San Francisco Fire Department. As a thank you to American Medibanc, Allen Technology Advising sent their President, Ben Allen, to come with us and present to the San Francisco Fire Department at no charge to us. We feel that we won the deal partially because we could offer state of the art technology that no other competitor could. This allowed us to sell the company and Allen Technology Advising assisted with transitioning all of the documentation for the environment to the new owners.
